Spring Cleaning on a Plantation

Like many of our readers, the staff of Long Branch Plantation has been very busy these past few weeks getting the site prepared for the warmer days ahead.

Our updated strategic plan also called for a number of major capital projects that will improve the appearance, efficiency and look of the farm.

Major Painting Upgrades

Here’s just a few of the projects we’re currently working on:

– Historically inspired painting throughout the historic home, including the parlor, dining room, main staircase and slave staircase.

So old it could be in a museum itself!

– Complete overhaul of our 30-year old AC system in the historic house. The new, energy efficient system will also replace a myriad of ancient thermostats with digital programmable models that will allow us to better control our energy usage.

Repair of seriously dilapidated window sashes and shutters across the farm on historic and non-historic structures.

Clearing, pruning, trimming and mulching of our formal gardens.

Always something more to mulch!

Replacement of nearly all our worn gates to our equine fields.

Upgrade of the heating coils in our automatic horse waterers.

Another fence to fix!

– Repair and replacement of tattered fence boards across the farm.

Seeding of exhausted equine paddocks for the summer season.

And that’s just the list for April and May!

Stay tuned as we continue to post about the latest projects and preservation efforts around the site.
