LECTURE & FILM : “The Lady and the Outlaw Horse” – Jane Pohl and the Renegade Champion Fitzrada with Director Lou Buttino
June 6 @ 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Lecture by director, Lou Buttino, about the story and making of the film, “The Lady and the Outlaw Horse”.
ABOUT THE FILM: They said she had no business in a man’s sport and if she wanted to compete, there wouldn’t be any gender concessions. Jane Pohl accepted the challenge and beat the best male riders in America. And if that wasn’t enough, she did it on a horse so unruly, that the Army was going to shoot him.
Jane Pohl and the “outlaw horse” Fitzrada became the greatest riding team of the 1940’s. Their courage earned the respect of men and inspired women. Their accomplishments helped break down barriers, including the Olympic ban on women competing in the Olympics.
Among other honors, New York International Independent Film Festival, the largest and most recognized festival by the film and entertainment industry, selected the film as “Best Biographical Documentary.” The film premiered at the Village Cinemas in New York City and the Academy Award-qualifying Laemmle Fairfax Theatre in Los Angeles.
Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door and includes admission to the Saddle Up! exhibition and Isabelle Truchon’s art exhibit, ROAM..
