Speaker Series 2024

Stay informed with our popular and informative speakers and plan to join us this winter as we continue to expand our horizons!

Our adventures in learning in 2024 will include topics such as environmental preservation, local history, architecture and sports as well as a presentation of poetry and short stories by local authors.

Here’s the 2024 line-up:

  1. Sunday, January 21: Sir Peter Crane, FRS - "Exquisite Encounters: An Outsider in the World of Botanical Art"

  2. Sunday, February 4: Maral Kalbian and Marc Leepson - "Huntland: The Historic Virginia Country House, the Property, and Its Owners"  (book signing afterwards)  Note: 5:00 PM

  3. Sunday, February 18:  Winston Wood - "1919 and the Baseball Scandal That Launched 1000 Books"

  4. Sunday, February 25:  Dr. Denis Onieal - " The History of the United States Fire Service" 

  5. Sunday, March 3: Dr. Laurie Fox - "Phyto Remediation - Using Plants to Cleanse the Environment"

  6. Sunday, March 10: Marc Leepson - "Saving Monticello" in the years after Jefferson died (book signing afterwards)

  • With the exception of February 4th, talks began at 6:00 pm and last approximately one hour, including time for questions and comments from the audience.
  • Cash or check accepted at the door/please call the office in advance for reservations.
  • Refreshments served half hour prior.
  • Book signings take place after the talks.
